"And not before time"  Victoria George, Brentford representative of the Hounslow Green Party said “We welcome some of the more tangible aspects, such as 20mph speed limits for all residential roads by 2020, but overall the plan is somewhat wishy-washy. For example, the A4/M4 through Brentford frequently breaches legal air pollution limits and yet this has still not been designated as a focus area, despite our recommendation at the consultation stage.”

“Particularly frustrating is the section on Heathrow which is all about mitigating the negative impact of expansion. Air pollution is one of the biggest threats posed by the 3rd runway and Hounslow is supposed to be opposing it. Why are they letting Heathrow off so lightly?”

“Hounslow Green Party supports the council’s intention to seriously address this crucial issue. It is estimated that approximately 200 deaths per year in the borough are related to air pollution. As well as respiratory disease, there is a growing body of evidence showing links to heart disease, dementia and other diseases."

“This has been a priority for the Green Party for years, and we would like our concerns to become part of the fabric of decision-making in Hounslow. We will certainly participate in the proposed steering committee if that’s an option.”
