Black Lives matter to the Greens

29 June 2020

Activists from Hounslow Green Party joined 70 other protestors to show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement on Sunday 28th June 2020 at Brentford Market.  At 14.30 the participants braved the rain to take the knee, a symbolic gesture to show our abhorrence of racism everywhere.

Tony Firkins, who co-ordinated the Greens at the protest said “We attended the protest despite the COVID-19 pandemic because it is critically important to show our support for the Black Lives Matter movement.  The Green Party is passionate about this campaign.  It is for fairness and equality, the social and political values we espouse and promote.“

“We were able to observe strict social distancing during the protest, so the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19 through our actions was minimal.”

Our member Jon Elkon, the author, offered his support whilst shielding at home. “I was there in spirit. I was born and brought up in South Africa, and the subject of racism is close to my heart.  And when I see racism in the UK – whether it is in HR departments, or in education, or on the streets, I am sickened to my stomach.“

“We have to change the world because right now, it’s just not good enough!”
