Challenging Heathrow inside and out

7 August 2019

Heathrow expansion protest

The Hounslow Green Party attended the latest Heathrow Expansion “Consultation” at the Brentford Holiday Inn on 7th August 2019 in strength. Throughout the day various members of the Party challenged the Heathrow staff with facts and figures which show beyond doubt that an expansion of flights by 50% could not possibly reduce noise, congestion, pollution or the contribution of Carbon Dioxide to the atmosphere, as is claimed by Heathrow Ltd in their documents.

Victoria George

“In a time of Climate Change,” Victoria George, an activist in the HGP said, “when Government has committed to declaring a zero carbon target, allowing airport expansion is irresponsible!” She pointed out that Hounslow Council has recently declared a Climate Emergency and yet they are “sitting on the fence by failing to challenge expansion in any meaningful way!”

The Party displayed a huge banner outside the venue, and conducted a “cough in” inside.   One member started to cough and it was taken up by various others throughout the room, to show the effects of the pollution already experienced in the Borough.
