Reply to Second Human Right Consultation

20 October 2012

Darbari Rachhpaul, a member of Hounslow Green Party, has written to the Commission on a Bill of Rights in response to their second consultation.  The letter is on behalf of the Darbari Trust UK, a charity for which he is a Trustee.  The Darbari Trust gives free legal help and support to the disbabled citizens of the UK, and so the consultation is very relevant for the work of the Charity.

Rachhpaul's letter is attached.  He has no objection to a Bill of Rights, but is suspicious of attempts to undermine the existing Human Rights Act.  Rachhpaul writes:

"We strongly believe that it is a moral, social and legal duty of this Government to disseminate to all; that application of the Human Rights Act on daily basis makes the United Kingdom a just society for all to enjoy"

He goes on to say:

"Increased awareness of the Human Rights Act benefited all those vulnerable groups who cannot help themselves such as old and infirm and, such patients and people who deserve to be treated in a non-degrading manner."
