Greens support striking Hestia workers at Hounslow House demo

7 March 2023

Hounslow Green party activists braved the cold weather to support striking Hestia LIFE workers on the evening of 1 March 2023.  The protest at Hounslow House was about pay and conditions at the Hestia Service Hounslow LIFE, which provides support to vulnerable people living in Hounslow.  The Unite members at Hestia LIFE are striking because their employer, Hestia, has refused to negotiate with them.  Hounslow Council fund the Hestia LIFE service.

Rashid Wahab, our candidate in the Heston West byelection, said: “We came out to support the demands of the Hestia workers.  No one should have to work under intolerable conditions. Hounslow Green Party, supports the reasonable demands of the Hestia workers for:

  • manageable caseloads
  • pay rises to prevent further staff losses
  • trade union recognition
  • prepaid travel expense cards
  • appropriate compensation for language skills"

“We are concerned that the unmanageable caseloads of the Hestia workers place vulnerable adults and children at risk.   This is a problem made in Hounslow House, and the councillors must heed these actions and work with Hestia to find a solution that supports the health and welfare of these workers.  Stop hiding behind the commissioning contract! “

There is a petition calling for better pay and conditions for Hounslow LIFE support workers.
