Hounslow Green Party have selected Freya Summersgill to stand as the Green Party candidate in the local by-election in Brentford West on Thursday 2 May 2024 caused by the unexpected resignation of Lara Parizotto, the former Labour councillor who left the Labour party and has been standing as an independent.   Freya is the Green Party MP candidate for Brentford and Isleworth in the next general election.

Freya says: “I was very sorry to hear that Lara is leaving the council.  I strongly respect her principled stand on the difficult issue of Gaza, as do many in the Labour party.  I also admire her views on racial and social justice”.

“If Labour win, they will have 52 out of the 62 councillors in Hounslow.  This huge majority is not good for democracy or accountability.  The Green Party is the only party to stand up for environmental and social justice.  It is time for a fresh voice in the council chamber who, like Lara, is not afraid to challenge the status quo.”

“As a local resident with a young family, I want to continue to build a stronger community where children thrive.  I have volunteered with youth groups for more than 20 years, encouraging them to be an active part of their local community and to promote self-confidence and independence.”

“I have been actively campaigning for environmental issues since childhood and will advocate the urgent local actions needed to prevent and adapt to the climate crisis.  I have a PhD in civil engineering and I am passionate about designing sustainable buildings suitable for net zero construction. I use my professional knowledge and experience to respond to local developments, council policies and plans”.
